Corrosion Resistance Mechanism of Steel Grating

A steel grating is an open steel member in which the supporting rods and the crossbars are jointed at the junction by welding or by locking. The steel grating is made of carbon steel or stainless steel.


Steel grating is widely used in electric power, transportation, construction, chemical industry and other industries because of its effective improvement in corrosion resistance performance. There is  also industrial steel grating. The corrosion resistance of steel grating is obvious in most application circumstances, which include indoor and outdoor atmospheric environment, fresh water and marine environment, etc.. The corrosion resistance of steel grating has been applied for many years, and its corrosion resistance under various application circumstances has been comprehensively analyzed, which has a good reference value for the application of steel grating. The corrosion resistance of steel grating is an important property .


The corrosion resistance mechanism of the hot dip galvanizing coating of steel grating is mainly in two aspects:

(1) The hot dip galvanizing coating plays a physical protective role on the steel matrix,which separates steel pieces and the corrosive environment to achieve the purpose of corrosion resistance. At the same time, the corrosion product film produced in the corrosion process of hot galvanizing steel grating surface can prevent the further corrosion.

(2) The hot dip galvanizing coating can play an electrochemical protection role on the steel base. In common corrosive medium, zinc is an anode for steel, so the hot dip galvanizing coating can be used as anodic sacrifice protection for the steel base exposed due to scratches and collisions. The corrosion resistant life of steel grating is mainly determined by the thickness of the galvanizing coating, and under different service environment conditions, the same kind of steel grating performs quite differently.
